PORT TOWNSEND — A deal between Washington State Parks and Port Townsend Paper Corp. will soon add 250 acres of property to Old Fort Townsend State Park.
State Parks Manager Kate Burke said Tuesday that the park will monitor 220 acres of land owned by the mill through conservation easements, and that 30 acres has been purchased outright from the mill for $3.1 million.
Port Townsend Paper mill manager Roger Loney had said on July 28 at a Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce luncheon that an agreement with the state was in its final stages.
Burke said the arrangement had been completed on Aug. 1, and would be formerly announced soon.
“Everything is signed, sealed and delivered,” Burke said.
“The deal adds 250 more acres to the park.
“Most of that is a conservation easement, and there will be no development.”
