Port Townsend: Music tonight on the waterfront

PORT TOWNSEND — Free concert tonight!

Music comes to the Port Townsend waterfront with The Jelly Rollers, one of the most popular blues bands in Seattle.

Bring a lawn chair and a picnic dinner.

Park in the Point Hudson area — or walk in from one of the downtown lots, or from uptown.

Tap your toes — or get up and dance.

Tonight’s concert is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Quincy Street dock area, Quincy and Water streets, in downtown Port Townsend.

The stage is next to the newly renovated Cannery building and behind the Water Street Brewing and Ale House (formerly Maxwell’s).

It is the first of 10 free outdoor summer concerts at the Quincy Street dock — “The Dock That Rocks!” — beginning tonight and running every Wednesday night through Sept. 15.

The concerts are sponsored by Peninsula Daily News and Pennco Transportation.

Co-sponsors are the Port of Port Townsend and Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce.

Mimi’s Sun Spa, 1300 Water St. (across from the ferry), is an additional sponsor for The Jelly Rollers’ concert.

The Jelly Rollers will play after the concert, beginning at 9:30 p.m., at Water Street Brewing and Ale House.

Bring a lawn chair

Organizers recommend getting to the pier by 5:45 p.m.

Bring a lawn chair to sit on — and a picnic basket, or grab some food at the uptown Port Townsend Farmers Market or from a downtown store or restaurant.

Music fans can bring non-alcoholic drinks. No beer or wine is allowed in the area.

Local students are also scheduled to sell popcorn and soft drinks at the concerts as a fund-raiser.

The concerts are being held in association with the farmers market.

The market is open at Polk and Lawrence streets from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Its vendors sell fresh organic produce, baked goods, plants and fresh cut flowers.

The farmers market is also open on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Lawrence and Tyler streets, in front of the Community Center.
