“The Ring,” a movie filmed partly in Port Townsend last fall, is set to premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival on Oct. 2, and will appear in theaters Oct. 18.
Directed by Gore Verbinski, the movie is a remake of a 1988 Japanese thriller about a journalist who discovers a videotape with a bizarre history — everyone who sees it dies within seven days.
The film, rated PG-13 for disturbing images, language and drug references, has been compared to “The Blair Witch Project.”
The movie was supposed to be filmed in Boston, but after Sept. 11, production was moved to the West Coast because of safety concerns.
Scenes shot in Port Townsend included a horse’s suicide leap off a ferry and the discovery of the horse’s body washed up at the beach at Fort Worden State Park.
