PORT TOWNSEND — Jim Monteith has spoken to high school students and community groups about his continuing struggle with AIDS.
On Sunday, he brought the message home to his church family.
“The myth is that the AIDS crisis is over,” Monteith said.
“You take all these pills and life will be hunky-dory. It doesn’t work that way.”
Monteith organized the service, “Living with AIDS,” at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to help people realize what he and other AIDS sufferers go through on a daily basis.
He also wanted to raise awareness of the AIDS Walk, a fund-raiser later this month with the theme “Open Your Heart to Save Lives.”
“Last year we raised $4,500 and had close to 100 walkers,” Monteith said.
“This year we’d like to hit $6,000.”
