PORT TOWNSEND — Two community leaders will tell Japanese officials this week how this city protects the environment and uses its heritage and culture for economic gain.
David Timmons, Port Townsend city manager, and Dave Robison, executive director of the Northwest Maritime Center, said they’ll use the proposed 27,000-square-foot maritime center as an example.
“I think it’s really kind of neat the fact they view us as something they can learn from,” Timmons said.
“There is a great demand around the world for heritage-based tourism and cultural tourism.”
Timmons and Robison left this morning and are the only two Americans invited to the Tango International Forum on Environment and Cultural Preservation in Miyazu, Japan.
The Japanese government will cover the entire cost for their visit.
