PORT TOWNSEND — The war in Iraq has taken its first Jefferson County resident.
Patrick R. Bammert, 48, of Port Townsend died Nov. 23 in a motor vehicle collision in Kuwait.
While working for Kellogg, Brown and Root, a Halliburton subsidiary, he was driving a truck from Kuwait to Iraq to deliver supplies to a military base.
His truck was struck by another vehicle, and he died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Although his death took place within the war zone, it was not connected with combat in the Iraq war.
“He was quite aware of the risk and went anyway,” said his brother, Robert Bammert, a Port Townsend resident.
“It’s been very difficult for me and the rest of his family.”
Worked as truck driver
Born July 25, 1957, in Seattle, Patrick Brammert moved to Port Townsend in 2000, but spent many years living in Ephrata and traveling the country as a truck driver.
He recently returned to Port Townsend in October to help with arrangements for the funeral of his father, G. Thomas Bammert.
He was scheduled to return home in December to spend the holidays with his wife, Christine, and the rest of his family.
