A three-car wreck Saturday afternoon at the intersection of South Discovery Road and Cape George Road sent one person to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Thomas Lorecki, 43, of Port Townsend was in the emergency room at Harborview at 8:30 p.m. and his condition was not known, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Others in the 4:15 p.m. wreck did not require medical treatment, said Bill Beezley, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman.
The crash prompted the closure of both roads for about 45 minutes, Beezley said.
The names of the other two people involved in the wreck four miles south of Port Townsend were not available Saturday, said Sgt. Andy Pernsteiner with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the crash.
Pernsteiner said that a 1998 Ford Taurus had run out of gas earlier in the day, and was in a pull-off on the side of South Discovery Road.
The driver returned with another person in a 1993 Ford Ranger.
They put gas in the car, and both were backing out onto the road when Lorecki, driving a Dodge Ram north on South Discovery Road, hit them.
He was “traveling north at a high rate of speed,” Pernsteiner said.
The impact forced both the Ranger and the Taurus off the road, Beezley said.
The Ranger suffered extensive damage, while the Taurus had minor damage, Beezley said.
The driver of the Ranger had a minor cut on his head but declined treatment, he said, while the driver of the Taurus was uninjured.
