PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Main Street Program presented three awards and announced board members during its annual recognition program.
The event took place Jan. 23 at the Old Whiskey Mill in Port Townsend.
Shelly Leavens, the executive director of the Jefferson County Historical Society, was named the Collaborator of the Year for working with Main Street on the first Haunted Histories and Mysteries event in November.
The museum, Main Street and Olympic Peninsula Steam also are working on a new Port Townsend Wayfinding project, which will redefine merchant information signs into interpretive signs.
Kris Nelson was named the Main Street Champion for her longtime support of the program.
Nelson, who runs four businesses with a total of 70 employees, has served on the Main Street board since 2014 and has been the board president for the past three years. She helped plan and raise funds for the Main Street winter lighting project, a downtown Port Townsend enhancement that has been funded through the city’s Lodging Tax Advisory Committee.
Pam Gill was honored as the program’s Volunteer of the Year for her efforts at events during the past three years.
Gill has set up hundreds of chairs for each of the Concerts on the Dock and served as door person for the shows. She also has volunteered at Main Street meetings, the downtown trick or treat event and during Girls’ Night Out.
The 2020 Main Street board includes President Sandy Spencer, Vice President Kevin Prime, Secretary Wendy Duede, Treasurer Jan Carter, Amber Bartl, Nathan Barnett, Sue Arthur, Simon Little and Pat Louderback.
