PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners will try to find an extra $10,000 in their coffers so visitors won’t have to pay parking fees at Fort Worden State Park this year.
The Board of County Commissioners directed staff to take the action after Tim Caldwell, a member of the Fort Worden Advisory Committee, asked for the financial assistance on Monday.
“I would like to see what we can do to help,” said Commissioner Dan Titterness, R-Port Townsend.
Titterness said he wants to ensure that any contribution by the board will benefit the entire county.
The Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce, of which Caldwell is executive director, has until Jan. 31 to come up with $25,000 to keep parking free at the park. It has raised $2,000.
