Port Townsend: Jefferson airport’s only charter service takes flight

PORT TOWNSEND — Steve Goodwin is filling the void for quick on-demand charter air travel from Jefferson County.

On July 7, Goodwin Aviation was licensed as the only air carrier to operate with Jefferson County International Airport, south of Port Townsend, as its base.

Other companies provide the service, but they require an extra charge because they must fly in from other regional airports.

Goodwin has two planes on standby in Port Townsend. His services include charter flights, scenic tours and air courier service.

He’ll take one person or a package airborne for $100 an hour.

A larger plane, capable of carrying three passengers, costs $150 per hour.

Goodwin has flat rates to most airports in the state.

Travel to Seattle costs $95 in the smaller plane, or $145 in the larger carrier. He flies to Boeing Field and has a car available to take customers to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

“Seattle or the San Juan Islands are my primary destinations, but I don’t want to put any real limits on it,” he said.

“I can go wherever someone wants to go.”

Flights with Goodwin can be booked by calling his cellular telephone at 360-531-1727.

“If not answering the phone, it generally means I’m in the air,” he said.

“As soon as I land, I check my messages.”
