PORT TOWNSEND — Worried about rising cost estimates for a City Hall annex, City Council members met Wednesday to figure out whether a $3.7 million project to house city administrative office makes fiscal sense.
The answer they got from City Finance Director Michael Legarsky was a qualified “yes.”
Legarsky told the council’s Finance Committee that building a 10,800-square-foot annex next to City Hall, 540 Water St., would be cheaper than buying and renovating the historical Waterman & Katz building, where the city now leases administrative office space.
Building a larger 14,000-square-foot annex would incorporate more public space, but cost slightly more money than staying in Waterman & Katz.
All three committee members indicated support for the annex project, though decisions or recommendations have not yet been made.
