Port Townsend hot dog stand to begin 26th year Thursday

PORT TOWNSEND — One of the signs of spring in downtown Port Townsend is eminent.

The Dogs-A-Foot stand is scheduled to resume selling its wares Thursday.

The hot-dog stand will begin its 26th year at the newly refurbished corner of Water and Madison streets.

The stand, which operates from March through October, is in its second year under the management of Lisa and Paul Fior, who bought the business from Bob Sheehan in 2010.

The menu isn’t fancy, ranging from a basic dog for $2.25 to a chili dog with everything for $5.75.

It’s much the same as last year, except for the addition of cream cheese as a condiment, something Lisa Fior said is now popular in Chicago.

The one new menu item is a Polish sausage with cream cheese, spicy mustard, onions and sauerkraut.

Called the “Not So Plain Jane,” the dog is named in honor of Lisa Fior’s sister, Jane Manzer, who died last year.

The kitchen is located in a trailer, which moves off-site during the winter, and there is no indoor seating.

Even though the stand is in the same location as last year, its appearance is different because new sidewalks have been installed at the intersection, and both streets are in the middle of the repaving process.

In May, a bronze sculpture, “Salish Sea Circle,” will be installed across the street.

“Business was down because of the construction and the weather,” Lisa Fior said.

“We hope it will be better this year.”

Dogs-A-Foot will be open every day except Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., extending its hours to 6:30 p.m. after May 21.
