PORT TOWNSEND — A change in flight patterns for helicopters landing at Jefferson General Hospital since Sept. 11 have some nearby residents concerned about safety.
Aircraft landing at the hospital have had to change their flight pattern to avoid Indian Island Naval Magazine since the terrorist attacks, hospital officials said.
That means helicopters are flying over more residential areas than before as they change their approach toward the Sheridan Street hospital, officials said.
The residents are concerned about helicopters hovering over homes and occasional landings by heavy-duty Blackhawk military helicopters in the hospital’s parking lot — and next to nearby houses.
Around 15 residents who live near the hospital showed up at a meeting at Jefferson General Hospital to air those concerns.
