PORT TOWNSEND – A Port Townsend man has pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Superior Court and been sentenced to 14 months in prison for robbing a 75-year-old Seattle woman of her backpack on Oct. 9.
Justin Richard Brown, 24, a transient, pleaded guilty on Friday to second-degree robbery and second-degree theft, according to court documents.
Brown snatched a backpack that was draped on the left shoulder of Annemari Woo as she strolled on the trail, according to court documents.
Woo was hospitalized at Jefferson Healthcare in Port Townsend with two broken bones in her shoulder after the robbery and assault.
She was walking on the Larry Scott Memorial Trail between the Port Townsend Boat Haven and the Port Townsend Paper Corp. mill when she was attacked.
Brown was apprehended soon after in the QFC parking lot on Sims Way when Port Townsend Police Chief Ed Green noticed him driving on Sims Way, recognized him from a description and pulled him over, Green said the day of the incident.
