PORT TOWNSEND – Although it’s on a busy street, it is hidden from view, blocked by a high hedge from the glances of passing pedestrians and motorists.
But now, Kate and Ned Schumann’s garden has high visibility in a national magazine.
In its October issue, Better Homes and Gardens magazine features the Schumanns’ three-season garden on Taylor Street in an article titled “Grand Finale.”
“Autumn is my favorite season,” Kate Schumann said.
“Whenever I get a plant, I think about how it’s going to look in autumn.”
She and her husband bought the house – one of the oldest in town – 15 years ago.
In addition to restoring and remodeling the living quarters, they also took out half the lawn and replaced it with plants and trees chosen for fall color.
For the magazine spread, the garden was photographed on a foggy day last October when the garden was at its peak, Kate Schumann said.
