PORT TOWNSEND — A decade after he stabbed a 15-year-old girl to death and dumped her body in the Little Quilcene River, Robert Froehlich was found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder in Jefferson County Superior Court.
Superior Court Judge Thomas Majhan convicted Froehlich in the murder of Allison Tornensis in July 1992.
Majhan also decided that Froehlich was not insane at the time of the killing, rejecting an insanity plea by the defense that claimed Froehlich suffered from a “drug-induced psychosis.”
After the verdict was read — greeted by brief clapping from several in the courtroom audience — Majhan told the defendant:
“The court will not judge Mr. Froehlich. Only God can do that.”
The judge delivered the guilty verdict after Froehlich, 28, waived his right to a jury trial.
Froehlich faces a maximum term of life in prison for the murder. He will be sentenced by Majhan on March 29 at 2 p.m.
