Port Townsend: Five candidates for Port commissioner face off

PORT TOWNSEND — Five contenders for Port of Port Townsend commissioner faced off Wednesday night debating topics ranging from economic development to saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Steve Brown told the 75 audience members that he represented “a legitimate voice of the marine trades industry,” being the owner of Admiral Ship Supply and in the business for 17 years.

James “Bonzo” DeLeo noted he brought 81 years of living in Jefferson County, including four years as a Port commissioner in the early 1980s.

Bill Miller, a retired aerospace consultant, said his experience of “finding solutions to complicated problems” would serve the commission well.

Bob Sokol, the incumbent commissioner, placed heavy emphases on his eight years in office, voicing confidence in the efforts he and the current Port board have undertaken.

Richard Wojt said 12 years on the board of county commissioners has given him working knowledge of what needs to be done to support businesses in the countywide Port district.
