PORT TOWNSEND — Daniel Wake is only 5 years old, but he already understands the true spirit of Christmas.
Last December, Daniel received a present from Port Townsend firefighters, who distribute toys to needy families in the area.
A week, ago the firefighters got a call from Daniel’s grandmother, Lauren Matson, saying he had been saving money all year so that Santa could buy gifts for other kids.
“We were talking about how some kids don’t have any money so Santa brings them stuff,” said Daniel’s mother, Mari Tacardon.
“This year, he collected pennies to give to Santa to buy presents for poor kids.
“He didn’t know last year he was a poor kid.”
