PORT TOWNSEND — The poster for the 2013 Port Townsend Film Festival shows a film-centric view of Taylor Street.
The poster sets the mood for the Sept. 20-22 festival.
It was created by Port Townsend artist Frank Samuelson.
Janette Force, festival executive director, said: “We love the idea that a native of Port Townsend has stepped forward to create this year’s poster.
“He has captured the spirit of the annual cinematic celebration in his unique and creative style.”
The festival, in its 14th year, shows documentaries and features that are geared to Port Townsend audiences.
And each year includes a special guest, a veteran actor or actress who presents a screening of one of his or her best films.
The poster will appear around town and in advertisements for the festival.
Art prints are now available for collectors for $100 each.
Force said that the festival’s special guest has been determined.
A contest to “guess the guest” is scheduled to begin in mid-June.
As in past years, the festival will announce three clues on successive weeks about the guest’s identity. The clues will appear in the Peninsula Daily News
The person making the first correct guess will win a pass and a posed picture with the guest.
Force said that one of the guest’s movies will be screened on Taylor Street during the festival.
Changes this year include holding the awards ceremony on Sunday night instead of Saturday to allow the presentation of viewers’ choice awards, along with the festival awards.
Force also said that the festival will expand into more venues than in the past.
Force, who is serving her fourth year in the executive director’s chair, said that the festival has become better organized each year.
“There used to be a lot more surprises. Now we know which conversations we need to start earlier,” she said.
