PORT TOWNSEND — Another casting call has gone out from the Port Townsend Film Festival, this time for movie-loving jet-setters.
Festival organizers are requesting a donation of frequent flier miles to help bring filmmakers to the Sept. 24-26 event.
While the movies to be shown have yet to be announced, they will be a mix of domestic and international fare, judging from the homes of the people behind the films.
The official program will be announced at the end of August, programming director Linda Yakush said Monday.
Movie-makers hail from Washington, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas and other states, she said.
Two Asian filmmakers are also being sought to attend the event — one from Bhutan, the other from China, Yakush said.
“Once most movie-makers were located in Hollywood and New York,” she said.
“Not anymore.”
‘Block party’
The fifth annual festival is being billed, as was its predecessors, as “a film lover’s block party celebrating great films and filmmakers.”
But the festival operates on a limited budget, thus the request for frequent flier donations.
“Festivals are at their most exciting when filmmakers attend,” Yakush said.
“I don’t quite know what the magic is, but their attendance does add to the electricity in the air.”
Some of the filmmakers are well-known enough that they require first-class travel, she said.
