PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Farmers Market is looking to expand its program while searching for a new home because of an anticipated City Hall construction project.
Organizers have applied for grants for the first time in the 10-year history of the market. They are hoping to double the number of vendors taking part in a venture that experienced 40 percent growth last year.
The Farmers Market was formed in 1992 by a handful of small Jefferson County farmers who wanted to market their produce directly to the public.
It now includes more than 50 farmers and craftspeople and grossed more than $100,000 in a six month season last year.
“Together with a 10-year anniversary and upcoming relocation, last year’s surprising growth has inspired us to begin looking to the future,” said Will O’Donnell of the Jefferson County Farmers Market board of directors.
