PORT TOWNSEND — Jim Argites and his family know what it’s like to live in the shadow of cancer.
They also know what it’s like to have that shadow lift a little.
Argites, a salesman for Edensaw Woods Ltd., a Port Townsend lumber business, is organizing Jefferson County’s latest Relay for Life, a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, which will be held July 11 and 12 on the Blue Heron Middle School track.
Leading off the relay, which starts at 6 p.m., will be Argites’ 30-year-old daughter-in-law, Heather Argites, and other cancer survivors.
“Heather has been very sick for the last month,” Argites said.
“Then last weekend she took a 180-degree turn for the better. She got up on Saturday and felt better; got up Sunday and felt good.
“The doctor called Monday and said he doesn’t see any evidence of cancer.”
