PORT TOWNSEND — After a critical meeting was canceled for lack of a quorum last month, the Jefferson County Economic Development Council board has reduced the number of members needed to hold an official meeting.
The board, with six members opposed, on Friday granted approval to EDC President Lawrence Graves’ proposal to pare the board’s quorum requirement to one-third of the existing membership.
That would mean a quorum of eight could meet.
“With a board this size, we simply need to conduct business in a timely manner,” Graves said during a Friday meeting at Point Hudson Marina Room.
Graves said records showed that three of 12 EDC board meetings last year were canceled for lack of a quorum.
Past council president Mark Jochems said that over the past five years about 25 percent of the meetings were canceled for the same reason.
