PORT TOWNSEND — City Manager David Timmons gave the City Council its first picture of the 2003 budget Monday night, saying that the level of revenue growth is expected to remain constant through next year.
While detailed budget numbers won’t be available until October, Timmons said growth in the city is expected to continue on its current course and tourism-related revenue has increased over the last year.
But expenditures — particularly employee costs, which represent the largest share of the city budget — are expected to rise.
“I don’t see any major shifts in growth,” he said. “But there will be challenges.”
This year’s budget is approximately $22.3 million, he said.
The general fund budget totals about $6.6 million, with $1.34 million coming from property taxes and $1.2 million from sales taxes.
