PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council will make its decision on an appeal of the controversial Laurel Heights low-income housing development at a meeting Sept. 29.
On Monday, council members heard testimony from friends and foes of the project, but chose not to conclude the hearing until the city manager and city attorney can attend the council meeting.
The issue revolves around a $5.3 million, 51-unit low-income housing development near Towne Point.
A group called Neighbors for Responsible Development has appealed the city hearing examiner’s preliminary decision to approve the nearly 5-acre subdivision.
Opponents say they feel the site is too big and believe that West Nile virus could be a problem with the development.
