PORT TOWNSEND — A convicted Brinnon burglar who was being treated for alcoholism while awaiting another burglary trial slipped out of his jail clothing and the Jefferson Healthcare hospital late Tuesday night.
Steven “Spike” Gray remained at large on Wednesday.
Jefferson County Superior Court issued a felony warrant for Gray’s arrest, with bail set at $50,000.
“Embarrassing,” was Undersheriff Tim Perry’s response to Steven “Spike” Gray’s escape.
“It happened during the fireworks,” said Perry. “They were probably trying to watch them, and he walked out.”
Gray apparently left the hospital wearing hospital clothing.
Gray, 43, had been a hospital patient since June 30 after he was arrested on suspicion of three counts of residential burglary in the Brinnon area, said Perry.
