PORT TOWNSEND — The school district plans a series of public meetings starting today to inform parents and community members about the pending search for a new schools superintendent.
Port Townsend School District officials said the meetings will provide the opportunity for the public to comment on what it would like to see in the superintendent who replaces Carol Andreasen, who retires at the end of the school year.
The board has scheduled five meetings today, the first four oriented for staff and students at various district schools during the daytime, said superintendent secretary Rosanne Avelar.
The main community turnout is expected at 6:30 tonight at Blue Heron Middle School, 3939 San Juan Ave.
The School Board sent a questionnaire to parents, asking what skills, talents and characteristics the board should be seeking in the next superintendent.
The questionnaire asks parents to describe the Port Townsend School District to a candidate and identify leadership characteristics that the new boss should exhibit.
The questionnaire also asks to define challenges in the district and for advice on how to deal with these challenges.
