PORT TOWNSEND — City Council members will create an advisory committee to offer suggestions about future decisions involving community television via cable channel PTTV.
The future of the cable television station, funded with public and private money, became a hot button issue nearly two weeks ago after a memo from City Clerk Pam Kolacy about changing the scope of the contract that governs its operation was distributed.
Some PTTV volunteers and fans contended that the city was trying to pull the plug on the two-channel public access station.
Kolacy, in a second memo last week, told the council that she wasn’t trying to eliminate contractual services between PTTV and the city.
At a City Council meeting Monday night, the council asked staff to make an outline of proposed changes in the television contract that can be discussed at a Aug. 9 council meeting, Mayor Catharine Robinson said.
Councilwoman Freida Fenn said the advisory committee will have the opportunity’s to participate in creating the direction for public television in the future.
“I certainly see that in the long term,” Robinson said.
