PORT TOWNSEND – About eight months after the Port of Port Townsend commissioners renamed Point Hudson as Hudson Point, the City Council approved the name change Monday night.
The council’s action means all future city references, signs and legal documents will refer to the historical site as Hudson Point.
Hudson Point is included in the Port Townsend Historic District, and Councilwoman Laurie Medlicott recently urged that the council readopt the name.
“I just thought it was a simple, logical, courteous thing to do,” Medlicott said Monday.
“I’m pleased that the city has seen it fit to acknowledge the port’s name change of historic Hudson Point.”
In the spirit of historical accuracy, Port Commissioner Bob Sokol in May 2006 floated the idea of returning the point to its original name.
