PORT TOWNSEND — Thatcher Bailey was appointed Tuesday as interim director of Centrum Tuesday as the board of directors of state’s flagship arts organization looked homeward for leadership.
The appointment, announced Tuesday, is something of a homecoming for Bailey.
He interned at Centrum as a program director in 1975 when the organization was still in its infancy.
“It was a smaller organization then and you wore a lot of hats,” he said.
But even three decades later, there’s some familiar faces in the organization.
“It feels very good to be back,” Bailey said from Centrum’s Fort Worden State Park office on Tuesday. “This organization is an exciting place to be.”
The Centrum board selected Bailey to replace Carol Shiffman, who resigned suddenly Oct. 20 after 5 ½ years at the center.
