PORT TOWNSEND — Blues — day and night — gets red hot in Port Townsend when the Centrum Blues and Heritage Festival begins this evening in nightclubs and continues all day Saturday — with two dozen famous singers and entertainers from around the country at Fort Worden State Park Conference Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The festival, sponsored by Port Townsend Paper Corp., is the culmination of a weeklong blues and heritage workshop that began June 25 and ends Sunday — a workshop in guitar, harmonica, piano, standup bass, blues and gospel vocals, kora, drums, lap steel guitar and the culture and heritage of the classic American art form.
The giant “Big Top”circus tent is up and ready — one of three main venues along with the McCurdy Pavilion stage and Wheeler Theater — and a beer garden, barbecue and food booths round out the day.
