PORT TOWNSEND — Thanksgiving began early at the Salal Cafe, which held its 21st annual charity breakfast and raised record amount of donations on Thanksgiving morning.
Cafe owners chose Jefferson County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program as a beneficiary of Thanksgiving breakfast donation.
Altogether, the charity raised a record of about $1,700, having served 171 patrons, co-owner Pat Fitzgerald said.
“Domestic Violence is going to be ecstatic,” Fitzgerald said.
Cafe ovens were fired up early to serve free breakfast at 8 a.m. on Thursday, and no table stood empty at the cafe at 643 Water, St.
Salal Cafe has sponsored the Thanksgiving charity breakfast for 21 consecutive years, and raised more than $1,300 last year.
To benefit the cause, cafe suppliers donated food, while friends and other community volunteers served the patrons special breakfast made with two eggs.
“We had the most wonderful volunteers,” Fitzgerald said, “and we had the biggest turnout.”
