PORT TOWNSEND — A six-acre tract could be used for affordable housing instead of a park if Jefferson County commissioners deed the parcel to the Housing Authority of Jefferson County.
The Housing Authority proposes building 20 two-bedroom and three-bedroom duplexes, five four-bedroom houses and a community center. The nonprofit agency hopes to secure state and federal grants for infrastructure and buildings.
The parcel at 35th and Hancock streets has had a checkered past.
Commissioners wanted to sell the land about eight years ago, but Port Townsend officials asked them to give the land to the city to develop a park.
But that has not happened.
