The attorney for accused killer Ryan Neil Sorensen is seeking taxpayer money for a psychological evaluation of his client.
Richard Davies filed a motion in Jefferson County Superior Court seeking up to $1,500 to hire a Seattle professional to evaluate Sorensen.
Kenneth M. Muscatel, Ph.D., can help establish a diminished capacity or insanity defense or determine if Sorensen is competent to stand trial, Davies wrote.
Sorensen, 30, is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 62-year-old Frank M. “Skip”‘ Smith Jr. at Smith’s Port Hadlock business last month.
Sorensen appears in Superior Court at 11 a.m. today for a hearing on whether Judge Thomas Majhan will preside over the trial.
