PORT TOWNSEND — After meeting for five hours Monday night, the City Council agreed to postpone discussion of the future of the public access cable television system, PTTV, until next week.
PTTV became the focal point of controversy late last week when some people interpreted a memo from City Clerk Pam Kolacy proposing contract changes as a signal that the city was getting ready to pull the plug on the television access.
Some council members expressed surprise at Kolacy’s memo, and one acknowledged being angry about the situation.
“I’m damned mad that I didn’t know about it (the memo),” said Geoff Masci, the council’s representative to Public, Education and Government Access Board that oversaw public access television before being disbanded in June.
Councilwoman Freida Fenn apologized for voting “yes” to a consent agenda item that disbanded the oversight board and asked for it to be reinstated.
“I didn’t understand the implications of that,” Fenn said.
“Things changed in ways no one was able to predict,” Masci said.
