PORT TOWNSEND — The American Association of University Women of Port Townsend has selected Denise Winter, artistic director of Key City Public Theatre as the 2019 Woman of Excellence.
Winter’s artistic work has included the New York City Opera, Nickelodeon and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the Rockettes, the AAUW said, adding that during her 12 years of work with Key City Public Theatre (KCPT) – directing, choreographing and staring in dozens of productions — she’s won numerous awards and honors.
Under Winter’s direction, KCPT has emerged as a regional theater community that fosters the talents of aspiring actors, directors and writers, AAUW said.
Youth interested in the performing arts are accorded varied opportunities through her TeenLab, Shakespeare Summer Camp and teen playwrights workshop.
Winter is involved in numerous Port Townsend activities such as the Port Townsend Arts commission and the city Lodging Tax Advisory Committee. She also serves as emcee for many events — including the Wearable Art Show — and was the 2018 keynote speaker for the Jefferson County Chamber’s Leadership Awards Ceremony.
Winter also was recognized as the Port Townsend Mainstreet Program’s 2017 Collaborator of the Year.
