Port OKs second hangar lease at Port Angeles airport

PORT ANGELES — A second hangar development at William R. Fairchild International Airport will provide space for six more airplane owners, the Port commissioners were told at their Monday meeting.

The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a 30-year lease for the 50-foot-wide by 250-foot-long hangar site off the southwest parking area with Dan Gase and Jerry Nichols of High Flyer Development LLC.

The lease also has two 10-year options. The monthly rent is $400 with annual inflation adjustments.

High Flyer Development also can assign the lease to a condominium owners’ association which has been formed.

Nichols said this hangar development will be identical to the pair’s previous development that opened in January except it will have room for six aircraft owners instead of 11.

One hangar will be larger for one owner who will be storing four planes, he said.

High Flyer Development filed for the building permit on Thursday, Nichols said.

Concrete work

Primo Construction will begin the concrete work after July 4 and the steel buildings could start going up by August, he said.

Port Commissioner Bill Hannan of Sequim said this development was in line with the Port’s goals for the airport.

Nichols said the market value of the pair’s previous hangar development is $650,000. There will be an investment of more than $1 million when they are done, he said.

The first one was sold before it was built, but they want to fill the second one before starting on a third, although there is interest, Nichols said.
