PORT TOWNSEND — Port of Port Townsend officials have notified state and federal agencies and are attempting to track down the owner of a sailboat that has been beached at Point Hudson for a week.
The small sailboat has been beached on the north side of Point Hudson since heavy winds brought it ashore last Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, the boat — which is now high on the beach next to the Point Hudson RV sites — had visible damage to the hull, especially around the keel, and the sails were not completely tied down and were partially ripped.
Staff members said Tuesday that the contact information on the boat’s owner has been limited and that they have very few details on exactly when and how the boat washed ashore.
The Coast Guard, the state Department of Natural Resources and the state Department of Ecology have been notified, staff members said.
They are assessing how best to get the boat off the beach.
“We don’t have a lot of information yet,” said T.J Quandt, Port of Port Townsend business manager. “Maybe in the next couple of days.”
Photos from the boat over the weekend show that the boat has been pushed further up on the beach by the tides each day. As of Tuesday, the mast of the boat hung not far from the high tide line.
There is no name on the stern of the boat, and the tags on the bow are currently up-to-date. However, the port has yet to make contact with the owner, according to Quandt.
Quandt said he hopes to be able to release more information on the boat and its removal later in the week.
