Port of Port Angeles picks Everett port property director for top job

PORT ANGELES — The Port of Everett’s director of properties and development was selected Monday by Port of Port Angeles commissioners as their new executive director.

Robert McChesney, 50, will start in the top staff position on Aug. 1.

The retiring executive director, Clyde Boddy, will be hired on a per-hour personal services contract for two weeks to help with the transition.

“I hope to live up to everyone’s expectations. This is what I trained for and want to do,” McChesney said at a public introduction session Monday afternoon.

“I’m excited about starting the new job. There’s a lot of challenges and opportunities here.

He wanted to “sort out his thoughts first” before elaborating on those challenges and opportunities, McChesney said, adding he wants to review the Port’s strategic plan first.

“The Port of Port Angeles is more similar to the Port of Everett than most people think,” he said.

Port operations

As executive director, McChesney will oversee the Port’s marine terminals, marinas and properties on the Port Angeles Harbor waterfront, John Wayne Marina on Sequim Bay, William R. Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles, airport-area industrial properties, and Sekiu Airport.

The Port of Port Angeles has a 2004 budget of nearly $5.66 million against projected revenues of $5.42 million.

The new executive director will be paid $96,000 during his first year, with performance reviews at six months, one year and annually thereafter for any salary increases.
