PORT ANGELES — The Port of Port Angeles approved a $2.2 million contract for the completion of its Terminal 7 redevelopment and stormwater conveyance improvements.
During the port’s meeting Tuesday, the board approved the $2,114,342 contract with Interwest Construction Inc., plus an additional $105,000 contingency budget.
That approximately 5 percent contingency is in case the contractor encounters unforeseen site conditions or the project is delayed due to log yard operations, said Chris Hartman, director of engineering.
Work includes grading, paving, installation of storm drain vaults and piping, installation of electrical improvement to power lift station pumps and installation of maintenance of erosion control devices.
Hartman said the project evolved, causing its cost to be about $1 million under budget.
“Originally, a much larger project was anticipated,” he said, adding it originally included more filler and grading.
If there is a delay or issue that causes an increase in cost, Hartman can approve use of the contingency budget.
The four bids for the project ranged between $2.1 million and $2.8 million.
