PORT ANGELES — Prospective buyers of the closed KPly mill will make their sales pitch to Port of Port Angeles staff on Friday.
The owners of the 19-acre plywood mill — Klukwan, Inc., of Alaska — closed the waterfront site owned by the Port of Port Angeles on Nov. 2, and made the closure permanent April 28.
The closure of the 67-year-old mill on Marine Drive put 132 people out of work.
For the prospective buyers — who port staff declined to identify — Friday’s meeting will be their chance to provide the port with a reason to believe that they can purchase and restart the mill.
If unconvinced, the port will move forward with a default judgment against Klukwan and acquire the mill, said port Executive Director Bob McChesney.
The port commission will be briefed on the matter in executive session at its regular meeting on Monday prior to any decision being made, he added.
“It’s sort of a last call,” McChesney said.
“Bring it on and let’s see what you got, and see if it is workable.
“We want to give them every benefit of the opportunity to present a feasible plan.”
