PORT ANGELES — Site preparation for Westport Shipyard’s mega-yacht manufacturing plant will begin soon following Monday’s contract award by Port commissioners.
D. Holcomb and Co. of Port Angeles submitted a winning bid of $95,720 to clean up the site before selling it to the yacht builder.
“It’s important to keep this process going. Westport’s (building) contractor is ready to go,” said Port Deputy Executive Director Dave Hagiwara.
Westport Shipyard already has applied for a building permit for the yacht-manufacturing facility on three waterfront acres.
The company’s plans call for a 100,000-square-foot plant at 637 Marine Drive, just west of Platypus Marine’s boat repair plant.
The estimated $12 million yard will employ up to 200 people to build 164-foot yachts sold for $30 million each.
