Port of Port Angeles commissioners will “take a second look” at the other two finalists for executive director after Claude Bullock withdrew Monday.
Clyde Boddy will continue serving as interim Port director.
Bullock, 61, was not present at Monday’s Port commissioners’ meeting. He submitted a letter which was read by Jack Waud, president of the board of commissioners:
“Upon my return to Port Angeles, I was appalled by all the negative articles written about me over an unfounded allegation three years ago.
“I have decided to decline your offer of port director for the Port of Port Angeles.
“I feel that I need the support of your entire commission which I do not have at this point in time.
“I only wish that I had been able to talk to the people in the community before they prejudged me.
“Should the community have a change of heart I am still willing to consult with the commission to improve the port.”
The commissioners released a statement later Monday saying they would “take a second look” at the two other finalists that had been recommended by a committee comprised of Port staff members and a committee of local citizens.
No time frame was for that review was mentioned in the statement.
The other two finalists were David Rystrom, former Port of Seattle aviation marketing manager who is now a consultant, and Cynthia Stewart, manager of Boeing Field in Seattle
Bullock was slated to begin Oct. 1 with a $90,000 annual salary.
