PORT LUDLOW — A yacht club taking steps toward expansion is drawing heat from the Jefferson County Department of Community Development and Port Ludlow residents.
The Meydenbauer Yacht club, which recently purchased a $250,000 parcel adjacent to its existing property, is in a dispute with residents over zoning issues and the county Department of Community Development over Shoreline Master Program rules.
Residents, including Port Ludlow Village Council members, worry that the yacht club will build on the land it recently purchased from a Seattle Yacht Club despite the parcel’s residential zoning.
John Underwood, former yacht club commodore, declined to comment Wednesday.
But the yacht club has already cleared trees and underbrush and used the lot as a parking and playground area during the Memorial Day weekend.
