PORT LUDLOW — Some residents want to know why they’re paying property taxes for services they don’t receive from the Jefferson County Public Utility District.
Six residents asked PUD commissioners Tuesday at a budget hearing in Port Hadlock where their tax dollars were going, but were told the district’s budget doesn’t have that level of detail.
Port Ludlow residents pay for water and sewer service from Olympic Water and Sewer Inc. They don’t receive any support from the PUD.
Ron Null of Port Ludlow, a retired land use attorney, said state law requires the utility to show where it’s spending money collected from property owners it doesn’t serve.
“If Port Ludlow isn’t receiving water service — which is the major service provided by the PUD — the PUD cannot use the tax funds to provide water service in another district,” Null said.
“They need to segregate that out in their budget to show how and where they’re using funds in Port Ludlow.”
