PORT LUDLOW — Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue commissioners have appointed Arlene Obtinario to the newly created position of administrative chief.
New Fire Chief Ed Wilkerson said that by eliminating the positions of assistant chief and chief financial officer and creating the administrative chief position, the department will pare administrative personnel costs by about $87,000.
“Most of these savings will be redirected into training programs for firefighters,” said Wilkerson.
Wilkerson was promoted from assistant chief to chief when former chief Wayne Kier left to take a position with North Kitsap Fire & Rescue in October.
After Wilkerson became fire chief in November, Port Ludlow Fire District commissioners decided to eliminate the assistant chief position.
They confirmed Obtinario more than a week ago.
