PORT LUDLOW — The Chamber of Commerce will provide free passenger-only ferry service between Port Ludlow and Kingston on Aug. 22-24 during the Hood Canal Bridge construction closure.
The bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, until 4 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.
It will also be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, until 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, and a foot ferry from Port Townsend to Seattle will be available.
Port Ludlow chamber co-president Sterling C. Couch III announced Monday that the second ferry run was secured to give North Olympic Peninsula and Jefferson County residents alternative transportation to the Seattle-area and Kitsap County when the bridge is closed in the latter part of the month.
“The response from the local business community has been amazing,” Couch said, who expressed thanks to those businesses involved in the “grass-roots effort.”
The temporary ferry run will operate in cooperation with Jefferson Transit, Kitsap Transit, the Port of Kingston, Port Ludlow Associates and the Inn at Port Ludlow.
Aqua Express’ 150-seat backup ferry, The Two Harbors, will transport passengers between Port Ludlow Marina and its docking facility next to the Kingston state ferry terminal during that closure.
As planned, passengers will be picked up near the Port Ludlow Marina’s fuel pier.
