GORST — A Port Hadlock man was killed Tuesday morning when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a truck on state Highway 3, about 3 miles southwest of Bremerton, the State Patrol said.
The man, identified as Danny T. Hampton, 55, was traveling southbound in the right lane of Highway 3 and Division Avenue on his 2001 Kawasaki ZG1000 motorcycle at 6:47 a.m., according to the State Patrol.
A 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck operated by Brandon R. McKenney, 37, of Belfair, was in the northbound turn lane making the turn onto Division Way and struck Hampton’s motorcycle, the State Patrol said.
Hampton was wearing a helmet but suffered fatal injuries, said Chelsea Hodgson, State Patrol spokesperson.
Hampton was a welder/fabricator at Inventech Marine Solutions in Bremerton.
The State Patrol said the cause of the wreck was McKenney’s failure to yield to the motorcycle.
The investigation is ongoing.
The roadway was partially blocked for two hours and 26 minutes.
Hodgson said that as the weather continues to improve, more motorcycles will be out on the highways.
“All motorists need to stay attentive and share the road,” she said.
“Motorcycles are often hard to see and hear. Motorists must make sure to focus on driving and avoid any distractions that could inhibit their ability to recognize a rider.”
Additionally, motorcycle riders need to ride defensively, she said.
