PORT TOWNSEND — A 10-year old boy was treated and discharged from a Seattle hospital Sunday after he turned suddenly in front of a car and was hit, the State Patrol said.
Thailer J. Houke-Ball of Port Hadlock was riding a mountain bike on the northbound shoulder of state Highway 19 six miles south of Port Townsend when he turned suddenly in front of a Honda van driven by Kenneth D. Beard, 69, of Port Hadlock and was hit, State Patrol said.
He and his bicycle ended up in the southbound lane.
He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after the 11:31 a.m. collision. The nursing supervisor said at about 3 p.m that he was still in the emergency room but that his condition was rated satisfactory. By 5:30 p.m. Harborview reported he would not be admitted and would return home.
Beard was not injured.
The State Patrol said that the cause of the wreck was that the boy failed to yield right of way.
No citations were issued.
