Some Christmas ornaments made by hand, a few stuffed animals lovingly used, hours of waiting for someone to stop by and buy — such are what charity is made of.
The Juniors and Cadets of Girl Scout Troop 64 spent Saturday and Sunday selling their wares at the Peninsula Picadilly Flea Market on the Clallam County Fairgrounds in Port Angeles.
The fourth- through ninth-grade girls’ goal is to buy Beanie Babies for children in the pediatrics ward of Olympic Medical Center. They want to present the toys next June.
Maria Rentas, the troop leader, said they raised about $90 Saturday and Sunday.
Although they won’t be at the next Picadilly market Dec. 18 and 19, they’ll return when sales at the fairgrounds restart Feb. 6.
“It’s their idea; it’s their project,” said Lyn Ross, troop co-leader, said.
They girls paid the $10 fee for a sales space from their troop funds, not from their proceeds.
